Buttercup the duck was born with a backward left foot, unable to waddle or swim properly, and suffered constant cuts and infections.
The duck, born in a high school lab in Tenessee, had the deformed foot amputated and was given to the Feathered Angels waterfowl sanctuary, where founder Mike Garey hatched a plan for a high-tech solution.
3D printing firm NovaPrint, who donated their services, scanned the left foot of Buttercup's sister Minnie, created a 3D model, and printed it in silicon.
Buttercup is now taking to the prosthetic like a duck to the water.
Mr Garey told USA Today: "His muscles will have to adjust, but I'm amazed at how well he's doing right off the bat."
